Tally export for housing societies

Tally export turns your Plinth society ledger into a Tally-importable XML file — chart-of-accounts masters plus dated vouchers (receipts, payments, sales, journals) — so your accountant imports the period in one step instead of re-keying invoices and payments. Generate it at Admin → Finance & reports for any date range.

The problem it solves

The treasurer runs maintenance on Plinth; the society's accountant works in Tally. Today that means exporting a CSV, then manually re-entering and reconciling every receipt and bill — hours of work each month and a fresh chance for errors. A direct Tally export closes that gap: the ledger Plinth already keeps becomes the file the accountant imports, books balanced, zero re-keying.

What the export contains

  • Ledger masters — every account (Bank, Cash, Maintenance Receivable, Maintenance Income, GST Payable, expense heads, …) with its Tally parent group, so accounts land in the right place on import.
  • Vouchers — one balanced voucher per money event in the period: receipts for payments, payments for expenses, sales for issued invoices, journals for late fees and corrections.
  • Company name — set from your society name.

Because the underlying ledger is double-entry, every voucher's debits equal its credits, so the import reconciles cleanly.

How to export

  1. Open Admin → Finance & reports.
  2. Set the From and To dates for the period.
  3. Tap Export to Tally XML — the file downloads to your device.
  4. Share it with your accountant; they import it into Tally.

Every export is logged with the date range and voucher count, and recorded in the society audit log so you have a provenance trail.

Honest scope

This is a one-click handoff export, not a live two-way sync. It covers the receipts, payments, expenses, and invoices recorded in Plinth — opening balances and transactions kept outside the app won't be included. Your chartered accountant remains responsible for statutory books and filing; the export simply removes the re-keying step.

FAQ

What format is the export? Tally-importable XML containing ledger masters and dated vouchers.

Will it re-key my invoices and payments into Tally? Yes — that's the point. Each Plinth money event becomes a Tally voucher, so your accountant imports instead of typing.

Does it sync both ways with Tally? No. It's a one-direction export per period. Re-export when you want a newer range.

Is GST included? Yes — GST collected on taxable charge heads posts to a GST Payable ledger and appears in the export.
