Admin: create and run a society poll

Plinth's poll wizard walks you through five steps: basics, options, rules, credentials, and schedule. This guide covers each step with the exact UI labels you'll see.

Before you start

  • You must be a society admin.
  • Import the owner roster and have at least some flats claimed (unclaimed flats still count toward eligibility).

Step 1: Open the poll wizard

  1. Go to Admin → Dashboard.
  2. Tap New poll (or Admin → Polls → New poll).

Step 2: Basics

  1. Enter Title and Description (for resolutions, the motion text goes here).
  2. Select Poll type: Yes/No, Resolution, Single choice, Multiple choice, or Ranked choice.
  3. Tap Next.

Step 3: Options

  • For choice and ranked types: add options, reorder as needed.
  • Yes/No and Resolution auto-seed Yes and No — skip this step.

Step 4: Rules

  • Voting basis: Per flat (default) or Weighted.
  • Secrecy: Secret (default) or Open.
  • Show live results: Off by default; enable only if you want running totals while open.
  • Quorum %: Minimum participation for a valid result (0 = no quorum required).
  • Pass threshold %: For Yes/No and resolution polls.
  • Max selections: For multiple-choice polls.

Step 5: Credentials (optional)

  • Toggle Require credentials if owners must upload documents before voting.
  • Add requirement items (e.g. "Govt ID", "Ownership proof") with required/optional flags.

Step 6: Schedule and publish

  1. Set Opens at and Closes at (close must be after open).
  2. Review the summary.
  3. Tap Save as draft or Publish.

During the poll

  • Monitor turnout on Admin → Polls → [your poll].
  • Review credentials if gated (Admin → Polls → [poll] → Credentials).
  • Review claim requests if new owners join mid-poll.

After close

  • View results on the poll admin page.
  • Export CSV (paid plans).
  • Results respect quorum and weighting automatically.

Troubleshooting

Poll won't publish — check dates, option count (need ≥2 for choice types), threshold values. Low turnout — send a reminder; extend close time before the window ends if needed. Result shows quorum not met — not enough eligible flats voted; re-run or hold an in-person vote per your bye-laws.
