Troubleshooting: ideas and suggestions
I cannot post an idea
You are not signed in. The board requires a signed-in account. Sign in and try again.
Your flat is not claimed. Posting requires a claimed flat in an active society. Complete your flat claim, or ask your committee admin to approve a pending claim.
No active society selected. If you belong to more than one society, or your context did not load, pick your society from the switcher and retry.
The feature is not enabled. Your society may not have the idea board switched on. Ask your committee.
I cannot upvote
Upvoting needs the same signed-in, claimed-flat state as posting. If the button does nothing:
- Confirm you are signed in and your flat is claimed
- You may have already upvoted — tapping again removes your upvote
- Refresh; a stale page can show a count that no longer matches
You get one upvote per idea, and you can take it back.
My idea is not visible to other residents
- Check you actually submitted it rather than leaving a draft open.
- Check you are looking at the same society, if you belong to more than one.
- Ask your committee whether it was moved. Complaints posted as ideas are often converted to helpdesk tickets, which is the right outcome but moves them off the board.
Nobody from the committee has responded
Most committees triage monthly. If your idea has sat untouched for longer:
- Raise it politely with a committee member — a triage may simply have been missed
- Ask for it to be put on the agenda of the next committee meeting
- If it still goes nowhere and it matters, raise it at the general body meeting
Every idea should get a status and a short reason. A reasoned decline is a legitimate outcome; silence is not.
My idea was declined and I disagree
You are entitled to the reason. If you have it and think it is wrong:
- Repost with the missing information — cost, a workaround for the objection, evidence of support
- Gather support and requisition a general body meeting if it is significant enough
I posted a complaint by mistake
Tell your committee so it can be converted to a ticket. A complaint on the idea board has no owner and no target time, which is why it will otherwise sit there.
For admins: residents say nothing happens
Almost always a cadence problem rather than a software one:
- Are you triaging at every committee meeting, or when someone remembers?
- Does every idea get a status and a reason, including declines?
- Do you announce when an idea is implemented, and credit the resident?
- Are complaints being converted to tickets rather than left on the board?
A process that responds to everything within a month, even with a no, keeps producing ideas. One that responds to some things sometimes stops within two cycles.
Frequently asked questions
Why can I not post an idea? Usually you are signed out, your flat is not claimed, or no active society is selected. Check those three first.
Can I upvote my own idea? Yes, and it counts once like anyone else's.
Can I remove my upvote? Yes — tap it again.
How long should a committee take to respond? Most triage monthly. Beyond a couple of months without a status, chase it.
My idea disappeared from the board. It was probably converted to a helpdesk ticket because it was a fault report rather than a proposal. Ask your committee to confirm.
Can I see who upvoted my idea? No. You see the count, not the individuals.
